Konflit for our new festival (Day 1)

Every year, La Slague opens its stage to emerging artists! A tradition that has lasted more than a decade, this festival has enabled a whole new generation of artists to take their first steps in the spotlight. This year marks a turning point, with a new chapter about to be written, giving way to a brand new festival.

To mark this pivotal moment, the band Konflit, headlining the evening of March 28, 2026, will take part in a roundtable as part of the Au rythme du Nord show of Radio Canada, hosted by Elsie Miclisse, alongside Éric Robitaille, broadcast live from le Bistro de la Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury.

A standard-bearer for bold youth and a resolutely unconventional spirit, Konflit was among the first artists to perform at the very first edition of La Nuit émergente in 2013 at Collège Boréal. This is a symbolic nod to that legacy, which brings things full circle and opens a new chapter.

The evening will continue with La Slague’s 2026 artistic residents in the Studio Desjardins de La Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury. Three promising talents from the Franco-Ontarian next generation. Luna Fox, songwriter and voice of Le Bruit d’aujourd’hui, will present her emotionally charged pop songs. Jonathan Okoua will share his Ponctuations project, combining voice and guitar in original compositions, while Darlene Ya will invite the audience to vibrate and participate in her energetic and interactive musical universe. Together, they promise a festive, creative, and inspiring evening.

Konflit

Since 2001, KONFLIT has produced six albums and performed over 300 shows across Canada. Known for its experimental approach and powerful theatrical stage presence, the band has established itself as a major force in Franco-Ontarian counterculture.

Over the years, KONFLIT has developed a unique artistic universe, collaborating with Franco-Ontarian poets such as Patrice Desbiens, Robert Dickson, and Daniel Aubin, integrating their texts into its musical approach. Their album Konflit dramatiK (2008), which won the Best Album award at the 2009 Gala Trille Or, left its mark on an entire generation and remains a staple of Franco-Ontarian music.

The group has performed on several major stages, including La Nuit sur l’étang, La Nuit émergente, the Festival franco-ontarien, Francofête en Acadie, and as the opening act for The Roots in Ottawa in front of more than 6,000 spectators. Still very active in Sudbury’s cultural community, KONFLIT will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first album, Hors d’œuvre, with a show at Collège Boréal in 2026, and is also preparing a new album scheduled for release in 2027.

Luna Fox

Luna Fox is a young French pop artist and passionate songwriter who has been writing songs since childhood. The first artist in her family to compose and sing regularly, she draws inspiration from her observations, experiences, and those around her.

She participated in La Slague’s musical residency, where she perfected her singing, guitar playing, and French songwriting, while performing her creations on stage and benefiting from the mentorship of Dan Bédard.

Luna is also part of the band Le Bruit d’aujourd’hui, formed as part of the music composition program at Macdonald-Cartier High School. Along with Nicholas Coutu, Kiera Konowalchuk, Que Lehoux, and Karim Ady, she represented the next generation of Franco-Ontarian musicians at La Brunante 2026.

Today, Luna hopes to produce a bilingual album, go on tour, and share her music in schools and on stage to inspire young people, especially girls, to create and explore Francophone music.

For this Day 1 of the new festival at Studio Desjardins at La Place des Arts in Greater Sudbury, Luna Fox will be accompanied by a talented ensemble: Karim Ady (cajon/shaker), Sean Perras (percussion), Nicholas Coutu (acoustic guitar), Guy Coutu (electric guitar), Dick Van Raadshhooven (cello), Zachary Cleement (keyboards), and backing vocalists Gabrielle Chenard and Cassandra Smith.

Jonathan Okoua

Jonathan Okoua is a passionate and creative young artist who explores emotions and stories through music. Born in Congo, he discovered music at an early age, influenced in particular by gospel artist Lifoko du Ciel, and began singing and playing guitar in his family and religious circles. At the age of 19, he moved to Canada to pursue his musical project and broaden his artistic horizons.

Throughout his career, Jonathan has seized several opportunities for development. He participated in La Slague’s musical residency, where he worked on his Ponctuations project, combining vocals, guitar, and original compositions. Thanks to the kind support of his mentor Dan Bédard, he was able to deepen his musical production and discover a more professional side of the studio, while experimenting with his creations in front of an audience.

Jonathan seeks to create universal songs that allow audiences to connect with the emotions and experiences he shares. His goal is to produce an album and go on tour, while exploring other artistic avenues such as theater.

For this Day 1 of the new festival at Studio Desjardins at La Place des Arts in Greater Sudbury, Jonathan Okoua will be accompanied by Sean Perras (percussion), Myron Kozak and Cristina Masotti (violins), and Dick Van Raadshooven (cello).

Darlene Ya

Darlene Ya Raven has a voice infused with mulit-cultural styles garnered from many years of travel from music-rich places such as New Orleans, Ireland, Morocco and Chiapas.

Following her 6 solos albums (and 3 band albums) she has embarked on a new project – World Jam for the Joy – a project that will empower listeners to explore and celebrate their own voices.  The strength of our voice depends on our thoughts and confidence supported by our vocal musculature.

Vocal play techniques help to strengthen the muscles while also stimulating the Vagus Nerve which supports all our internal organs.

The show will be an all-inclusive experience that will vibrate you into lower cortisol levels and higher joy.  You are the choir.
