Maten

Maten convinces you that the Innu language is perfect for the tones and rhythms of folk-rock. You don’t need to understand the lyrics to sense their spirit: it’s about remembering your roots to find your future. They hail from Uashat Mak Mani-utenam (Maliotenam) on Quebec’s North Shore, like the renowned ’90s band Kashtin. That’s a relevant reference, given that the band includes the son of the trailblazer father. With four solid albums and a strong concert career, Maten is a key player in the thriving Innu cultural scene. Can we call it new Innu?

La Slague's Evolution

La Slague was established in 1964 by the Centre des jeunes de Sudbury. After many years of success, La Slague went dormant, and then reappeared for a time in the mid-1980s as a community-based volunteer organization. With La Slague’s renaissance in 2006 as part of the Carrefour francophone, a third generation of concert promotion activities was afoot.
